Separation of Church and State

Gov. Perry and the rest of the Republican presidential candidates and all those Fundamentalist Christian Tea Party types who are always touting their devotion to the Constitution need to become educated the Constitution.

Article VI 2nd paragraph reads as follows:

“This Constitution, and the Laws of the United States which shall be made in Pursuance thereof; and all Treaties made, or which shall be made, under the Authority of the United States, shall be the supreme Law of the Land; and the Judges in every State shall be bound thereby, any Thing in the Constitution or Laws of any State to the Contrary not with-standing.” http://www.earlyamerica.com/earlyamerica/freedom/constitution/text.html

 The Treaty of Tripoli (Treaty of Peace and Friendship between the United States of America and the Bey and Subjects of Tripoli of Barbary) was the first treaty concluded between the United States of America and Tripoli, signed at Tripoli on November 4, 1796 and at Algiers (for a third-party witness) on January 3, 1797. It was submitted to the Senate by President John Adams, receiving ratification unanimously from the U.S. Senate on June 7, 1797 and signed by Adams, taking effect as the law of the land on June 10, 1797: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dominionism

The treaty was a routine diplomatic agreement but has gained attention because the English version included a clause about religion in America:
“As the Government of the United States of America is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion, as it has in itself no character of enmity against the laws, religion, or tranquility, of Mussulmen, and as the said States never entered into any war or act of hostility against any Mahometan nation, it is declared by the parties that no pretext arising from religious opinions shall ever produce an interruption of the harmony existing between the two countries.”

… the Government of the United States of America is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion;  is, according to the Constitution, the SUPREME LAW OF THE LAND.

This treaty, drafted by George Washington’s administration was ratified in 1797, thus becoming U.S. law and the SUPREME LAW OF THE LAND, per Article VI-2 of the US Constitution:

People should really know what they’re talking about before they start spouting off.
