Ted Cruz (and most Republican politicians) are hypocrites.

The proof? Just listen to what they say; look at the laws they are passing. To deny any individual basic human rights based on your individual beliefs is outrageous, unethical, and contradicts the ideas of the founding fathers. It is also contrary to the teachings of virtually all religions, and definitely not supported by what they claim is “the word of God.”   But that is what they have already done in many states and what they want to do everywhere. Yet they claim that they are faithful to the ideas of the founding fathers and call themselves “Chirstians.”

Mark 12 /17:  Render to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s.
“Believing with you that religion is a matter which lies solely between man and his god, … I contemplate with sovereign reverence that act of the whole American people which declared that their legislature should make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof, thus building a wall of separation between church and State. …, I shall see with sincere satisfaction the progress of those sentiments which tend to restore to man all his natural rights, convinced he has no natural right in opposition to his social duties.” Thomas Jefferson 1802 letter to the Danbury Baptists
“The things that are Caesar’s” include civil marriage.  Civil marriage belongs to Caesar (the State) because the state has an interest in knowing the relationships between people to know who should have custody of children, who should be responsible for the support of who, who is entitled to benefits provided by the state based on relationships, who can claim the estates of the deceased, etc.  Religious concepts of marriage are (at least in most religions) one of  “the things that are Gods.” But Civil Marriage and Religious Marriage are NOT the same thing and efforts to enshrine ONE religions ideas of marriage into CIVIL law is a violation of the 1st amendment to the constitution, a tearing down of the wall of separation between church and State.  But it is also contrary to the teachings Cruz and many others who call themselves Christians claim to believe and thus proof of their hypocrisy. . Render to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s.  Ye shall know them by their fruits.

“Toleration is not the opposite of intolerance but the counterfeit of it. Both are despotisms: the one assumes to itself the right of withholding liberty of conscience, the other of granting it.”: Thomas Paine, The Rights of Man, 1791-1792
“The Gothic idea that we are to look backwards instead of forwards for the improvement of the human mind, and to … the annals of our ancestors for what is most perfect in government, in religion & in learning is worthy of those bigots in religion & government, by whom it has been recommended, & whose purposes it would answer.  But it is not an idea which this country will endure”: Thomas Jefferson To Dr. Joseph Priestley; Philadelphia, Jan. 27, 1800
“There is a failure to keep separate the question of society’s right to pass a moral judgement and the question of whether the arm of the law should be used to enforce the judgement. “: Lord Devlin

“How can it be that it is not a news item when an elderly homeless person dies of exposure, but it is news when the stock market loses two points?”: Pope Francis
“… If anyone shall set the authority of Holy Writ against clear and manifest reason, he who does this knows not what he has undertaken; for he opposes to the truth not the meaning of the Bible, which is beyond his comprehension, but rather his own interpretation, not what is in the Bible, but what he has found in himself and imagines to be there.”: St. Augustine
